Meet Professor George Callaghan

Financial educator and coach helping people make sense of money and life’s changes.

A background in financial education

George has an undergraduate degree and PhD in Economics and has spent much of his career teaching and writing about economics and personal finance.

He is Professor of Economics and Personal Finance at The Open University and a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

His work has given him extensive experience of explaining financial ideas in a practical and accessible way, helping people move from understanding the numbers to thinking about what they mean for their own lives.

Coaching alongside financial expertise

George is also a professionally trained coach, bringing together financial education with coaching to help people think through their options, priorities and next steps.
  • Certificate in Coaching with Oxford Coaching and Mentoring
  • Level 7 Certificate in Executive Coaching and Mentoring with the Institute of Leadership and Management
  • Associate Certified Coach status with the International Coaching Federation

A different way to think about money

George is motivated by helping people navigate the world of money and build more positive money habits.

He particularly enjoys the moments when something becomes clearer, when a client understands an option they hadn’t considered, sees a different way forward or gains the confidence to take their next step.

For George, coaching isn’t about telling people what to do. It’s about creating the space to reflect, understand the choices available and decide what comes next.
